Credit Card Fraud

I've always been thankful of the credit card companies calling when they thing there is suspicious activity on your card. I know there are a lot of people who think it is a hassle and are even very irritable on the phone during these calls but I've always been very appreciative even though they were actual transactions of mine. My thinking process was that one day, all this stuff might not be my charges...and that day has finally come. On Monday I received a call from the bank asking about all these transactions to buy clothes in the morning. I was telling them that I was at work and have not used my credit card till the Saturday and that I still had the credit card in my possession. Anyways, they said that the card was present at all the locations and that they needed to cancel it and have me fill out a report. I think that is much better than if I was to get my credit card bill and see all these charges that weren't mine. Anyways, just be thankful that the credit card companies are just trying to be safe and help you out when they call you and even put freezes on your credit cards. It may even be xmas time and you're holding up long lines but it's still for the best!

I had that happen to me about 2-3 times already. First time they asked if i made a purchase in Thailand. ??$&(*%%$?
Then another charged $20 on BART in SF. (I actually lost my card that time, but wasn't responsible for charges)
Can't remember the other time. But it was a easy process, the bank called, asked if it was me, I said no, cut up my card and received a new one in 2 weeks.

wow that sucks, lucky for squirl it was caught early. I wonder how the number was stolen. I hear if they use those old fashioned machines at shitty little businesses, sometimes the employees use it to make a duplicate card somehow.

I'm not really grateful when they decline my card, its kind of embarassing. I was in Florence a few years ago buying a crapload of luxury goods, feeling like mr.hotshot, when I take it to the counter and my card was decline. Of course I had the credit to spend but apparently it was my responsibility to call them to let them know. Same trip, made some purchases in Paris, and I get the same thing.
